Permission level: Must be an owner or admin to link the devices
If you have multiple cameras and/or multiple Sound + Light devices, you will have to manually link the devices:
- Confirm your Pro Camera and Sound + Light are set up with the same Nanit Account
- Ensure that you are an Owner or Admin for both devices
- You will receive an in-app prompt to link your devices. The prompt will either be a banner on the Live screen tab or a pop-up drawer on the Activity tab
- If you don’t receive a prompt to link your devices or aren’t sure if your devices are linked, follow these steps to confirm:

- Open your Baby’s Settings in the Nanit Camera App from the side (hamburger) menu in the top left corner
- Scroll down and tap “Link with Sound & Light”
- Select the relevant Sound + Light device you’d like to link
How do I set up my Nanit Sound + Light in the Google Home app?
- “Link” your Pro Camera and Sound + Light, following the steps above
- If you have NOT already set up your Nanit Account with Google Home, follow the steps below before proceeding to steps 3:
- Open the Google Home app [make sure you are signed in to your Google account]
- Click on “Devices” in the bottom navigation.
- Tap “+Add” in the bottom right corner of the screen
- On the next screen, tap “Works with Google”
- Search for the Nanit App from the “Home Control” screen
- Follow steps to sign into your Nanit Account
- Navigate to the Google Home devices screen on your App or Nest Hub device
- Scroll to the bottom to view the Sound + Light devices available
- You may need to add the Sound + Light device to a room in order to use voice control
- Control Sound + Light with your voice using the commands listed below (beginning with “Hey Google…”)
How do I control my Nanit Sound + Light with Google Home?
In the Google Home Action Screen, you will be able to view any linked Sound + Light devices, plus the on/off status of each. Note that a disconnected Sound + Light cannot be controlled via Google Home and will appear as offline. Use the commands below to turn your Nanit Sound + Light on/off or adjust the brightness. You can refer to your device by its name in the Sound + Light App (ex. “Alex’s Room”) or as “speaker(s).”
On/Off
- Turn device on/off: “Hey Google, turn <s&l name> on”, “Hey Google, turn <s&l name> off”
- Perform commands in bulk by referring to multiple Sound + Light devices as speakers: “Hey Google, turn my speakers on/off”
Brightness change
Note: If the device is off (standby), and the user gives a brightness command, Google will automatically set the device to ON state.
- “Hey Google, set <device name> brightness to x%”
- Dim brightness ~10-20%: “Hey Google, dim <device name>”
- Increase Brightness ~10-20%: “Hey Google, brighten <device name>”
- Dim fully to 0% brightness: “Hey Google, completely dim <device name>”
- Increase fully to 100% brightness: “Hey Google, brighten <device name> to maximum” (will go to 100%)
Volume change
Note: If the device is off (standby), and the user gives a volume command, Google will automatically set the device to ON state.
- Set volume to a specific level: “Hey Google, set <device name> volume to X percent”
- Lower/increase volume by 10 points: “Hey Google, volume [up/down] on <device name>”
- Lower/increase volume by a specific value: “Hey Google, volume [up/down] by x on <device name>”
TIP: Try providing a combined command, such as “Hey Google, turn <device name> on AND set the brightness to 35%”
FAQ + Troubleshooting
Q: Can I remove a Nanit camera from my Google Home app?
A: Yes, you have the ability to remove the Nanit App from your Google App or Nest Hub device should you wish to undo the pairing process. Simply open your Google Nest Hub, tap on the camera, then “Unlink Nanit.”
Troubleshooting issues with Nanit Sound + Light and Google Home
To troubleshoot issues with Sound + Light and Google Home, first ensure you meet the requirements listed above and have linked your Nanit Pro Camera with your Sound and Light. If issues persist, follow these steps to reconnect your device:
- Unlink the linked Nanit service and remove any devices associated with Nanit
- Navigate to your Android device’s settings app.
- Select “Apps” from the list of settings
- Select see all apps
- Select the Home from your list of apps
- Select Storage & Cache
- Clear your app’s storage. (Note: You will need to log back into your Google account and reconnect to your Nest device(s)
- From within the Google Nest Hub device, select add “+ Add” and connect Nanit. Important: Ensure you put your Nanit credentials in correctly in the web view during your first attempt of logging in.
